Kids love county fairs and other amusement parks, but when it’s their first time, they may not be too pleased by the experience. It can be scary and overwhelming, so follow these tips to make the adventure more enjoyable.

Watch Rides Together, First

It’s important that kids have their expectations met when going on rides for the first few times, as surprises can create a fearful situation. Look at others on the small rides together, and explain the bumps, turns and other playful nuances that will go on during the ride.

Enjoy The Small Carousel And Other “Kiddie” Rides

The carousel is a favorite of all children and therefore, one of the most logical choices for young ones and first-timers. Take a seat on a bench if your little one is intimidated by the view from atop a horse, and snuggle tight. They’ll feel secure with you close by and before long, be more than eager to ride the colorful horses. Avoid any ride that seems too fast, dark or otherwise overwhelming.

Adhere To All Instructions And Warnings

There is never any reason to make the rules up as you go along at the amusement park, and all those rules are there for a reason. Rigorous testing goes into every ride, including who should be able to get on it and at what height and weight.

Repeat Those Favorite Rides

Even if it seems like your child’s desire to climb on the carousel horses will never end, don’t worry – it’s perfectly normal for them to have a favorite ride and keep going back for more. While you may grow bored, this will be a great introduction to amusement parks for your little one, due to the simple fact that nothing was too overwhelming or disagreeable for them.

With your parental instincts and all that amusement parks have to offer, your child should have the time of their lives at an amusement park, from the very first visit. Take it slow and follow their lead, for a lifetime of exciting childhood memories at this classic American pastime.
